Why plant shops stock it
Ornamental Piper from New Guinea are sought by collectors for their leaf texture and colour, and stay compact enough for terrariums and humid cabinets while young. It is sold under a provisional name; leaf colour varies with light and age. See our other Piper species, such as Piper ornatum, to build a mixed order.

How we pack it
Plants are cleaned, treated against pests at the quarantine office and packed bare-root in sphagnum moss, or in tissue for countries that do not accept moss, inside ventilated boxes.
Care after arrival
- Potting: pot it within a day of arrival in a light, well-draining mix and keep it slightly moist, not wet, for the first two weeks.
- Light: bright, indirect light. Direct sun bleaches the leaf colour.
- Water: water when the top 1–2 cm of the mix is dry. It does not tolerate soggy roots.
- Humidity and warmth: 60% humidity or more, and temperatures above 18 °C (65 °F). A terrarium or humid cabinet suits young plants.
- Support: give it a moss pole or small trellis to climb, or let it trail.
