What Is Black Ginger?
Black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora) is a small rhizome in the ginger family, native to mainland Southeast Asia. In Thailand it is called krachai dam, and it is sometimes sold as Thai black ginger or Thai ginseng. Cut open, the rhizome is dark purple to almost black inside.
It is not the same plant as black turmeric (Curcuma caesia), which has a bluish interior and is also sold as “black ginger” in some markets. The botanical name is written on our invoice and on the phytosanitary certificate, so your customs broker and your customers know exactly what they receive.
Buyers use it as a raw material for herbal teas, extracts and supplement ingredients, and it is the subject of ongoing scientific research. We sell it as a raw agricultural product and make no health claims.

Fresh black ginger, like all fresh ginger, cannot be shipped to the United States at the moment because of recent regulation changes.
