Import Permit, What is That? How To Get It?

For some countries, you need to get an import permit before buy plant from Indonesia or another country. This is really important, because if you don’t have an import permit, the plants that you buy from another country will be held by customs and destroyed.

If the plants are destroyed by customs because the buyer doesn’t have a permit, we can’t give a replacement or a refund. Because it is the buyer’s responsibility to provide us with the permit. We will ask the buyer about an import permit before processing their order.

On this post, we will explain about how to get import permit in your country. This is based on our experience shipping plant around the world.

What is import permit? Wikipedia says import permit is “An import license is a document issued by a national government authorizing the importation of certain goods into its territory. Import licenses are considered to be non-tariff barriers to trade when used as a way to discriminate against another country’s goods in order to protect a domestic industry from foreign competition.”

Before you buy plants from Labijo, make sure that your country has not prohibited plants from Indonesia. Some plants are prohibited from entering countries because they may introduce pests that are harmful to the environment. Every country has its own regulations.

Which Countries Need Import Permits?

This information is subject to change without prior notice. Because we are not people who make the decision. We write down base on our experience ship plant worldwide. We don’t know all country regulation about import permit, this list based on information on 28 October 2021 from the quarantine staff.

We need import permit not only for printed in your package when shipped, but quarantine need it to fill phytosanitary certificate base on your country requirements.

How To Get Import Permit?

For some countries, you can get an import permit easily. Usually, you can get information about applying for an import permit on the official Agriculture Ministry website. We try to search for and get information about how to get an import permit.

How To Attach Import Permit for My Order?

If you already order on Labijo website, you can send email to with subject Import Permit for #OrderId

Make sure that you put active email address when ordering in Labijo. We will contact you if shipping order to your country is required an import permit. Especially for who never buy plant from Indonesia or another country before. You don’t need the permit if you buy plant from local seller.

How do I get an import permit?

You can check on the link list above, if your country not listed here. You can try to check your official Agriculture Ministry Website to get information about import permit in your country. Usually you only need to registered in system and fill the form to get import permit.

How much Import permit fee?

We don’t know exactly about how much permit fee. Every country has their own regulations. You can read it on the Agriculture Ministry Website. For example, in Singapore, S$11 per consignment.

How Long Does It Take to Get an import permit?

Depend on your country. On the US you can get import permit around 2 – 3 days. When we get customers from Hawaii, they can get import permit less than 6 hours. But sometimes can takes about a weeks.
