Why plant shops stock it

Piper ornatum is one of the most patterned pepper vines in cultivation. Every leaf carries its own silver-pink network over olive green, with a red back that shows when the vine trails from a shelf or hanging basket. It roots easily from nodes, so it recovers quickly after bare-root shipping and is simple for shops to pot up and propagate.

In Indonesia the leaves of sirih merah are also used in traditional herbal drinks (jamu). We sell it as an ornamental plant.

Ordering for your shop

  • Wholesale price: 25% below the catalog price when you order 20 Piper ornatum, or 100 plants in total with at least 4 of each species.
  • Mixed orders: combine it with other Piper species and anything else in the wholesale catalog.
  • Lead time: export documents take 7–14 business days. Delivery then takes 2–3 days to Singapore and about a week to the United States or Europe by DHL Express.
  • Import permit: every US order needs a USDA import permit (PPQ 587). Read how to import plants from Indonesia for other countries.
  • Payment: Wise or bank transfer after we confirm availability.
  • Arrival guarantee: plants that arrive dead are replaced once, shipped with your next order. Report within 48 hours with an unboxing video and photos.

How we pack it

Plants are washed, treated against pests at the quarantine office, and packed bare-root in sphagnum moss, or in tissue for countries that do not accept moss, inside ventilated boxes. More about the paperwork in our guide to the phytosanitary certificate.

Care after arrival

  • Potting: pot it within a day of arrival in a light, well-draining aroid mix and keep it slightly moist, not wet, for the first two weeks.
  • Light: bright, indirect light. Direct sun bleaches and burns the leaves.
  • Humidity and warmth: it prefers 60% humidity or more and temperatures above 18 °C (65 °F).
  • Water: water when the top 2–3 cm of the mix is dry. Soggy soil causes root rot.
  • Training: let it trail from a basket or give it a moss pole; nodes that touch the mix will root.
