Why plant shops stock it
Billbergia are among the easiest bromeliads to grow: they take average room humidity, need little root space and form offsets that fill a pot quickly. Patterned leaves keep it decorative all year, and mature rosettes send up a short-lived flower spike with bright bracts. Pair it with the burgundy Billbergia or other bromeliads in a mixed order.

How we pack it
Bromeliads are shipped bare-root: the rosette is cleaned, treated against pests at the quarantine office, and the roots are wrapped in moist sphagnum moss, or tissue for countries that do not accept moss, inside ventilated boxes.
Care after arrival
- Potting: pot it within a day of arrival in a small pot with a porous, fast-draining mix of bark and perlite. Set the base at the surface; buried leaves rot.
- Light: bright light keeps the speckles and colour strong. Shade it from hot midday sun, which scorches the leaves.
- Water: keep a little fresh water in the central cup and let the mix dry slightly between waterings. Empty and refill the cup every week or two.
- Temperature: warm and frost-free, ideally 15–30 °C (60–85 °F).
