Why plant shops stock it

The Tricolor is one of the most recognised Aglaonema among collectors, and the camouflage pattern differs on every leaf. It is slow-growing, so mature, well-patterned plants are always in short supply.

In our nursery we propagate it in water and from seed. Plants that arrive stressed after shipping usually recover well with water propagation before potting.

How we pack it

Plants are cleaned, treated against pests at the quarantine office and packed bare-root in sphagnum moss, or in tissue for countries that do not accept moss, inside ventilated boxes.

Care after arrival

  • Potting: pot it within a day of arrival in a light, well-draining aroid mix and keep it slightly moist, not wet, for the first two weeks.
  • Light: bright, indirect light; no direct sun.
  • Water: water when the top 2–3 cm of the mix is dry. Soggy soil causes root rot.
  • Humidity and warmth: 60% humidity or more and temperatures above 18 °C (65 °F).
  • Recovery: if a plant arrives weak, root it in water first; see water propagation.
  • Pets: like most aroids, the sap contains calcium oxalate and irritates pets if chewed. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
