Why plant shops stock it

The green Monstera adansonii is one of the best-selling houseplants; the variegated form is the step up that collectors look for. Each leaf combines natural holes with its own pattern of white or yellow, so every plant is one of a kind.

It can trail from a basket or climb a pole, which makes it flexible for shop displays. Prefer the plain green form? See our Monstera adansonii.

How we pack it

Plants are cleaned, treated against pests at the quarantine office and packed bare-root in sphagnum moss, or in tissue for countries that do not accept moss, inside ventilated boxes.

Care after arrival

  • Potting: pot it within a day of arrival in a light, well-draining aroid mix and keep it slightly moist, not wet, for the first two weeks.
  • Light: bright, indirect light; too little light and new leaves lose variegation.
  • Water: water when the top 2–3 cm of the mix is dry. Soggy soil causes root rot.
  • Humidity: it likes humidity but tolerates average room conditions.
  • Pets: like most aroids, the sap contains calcium oxalate and irritates pets if chewed. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs.
