Philodendron Hastatum

$10

Philodendron hastatum, also known as silver sword philodendron, is a popular and easy-to-grow indoor plant. They have shiny, metallic-tinged leaves that become triangular, arrow-, or sword-shaped once they grow. The name comes from how it looks.

As a climbing vine, Philodendron Hastatum needs a little stake to help it stand firm and grow gracefully. Its unique mirror-like appearance makes it a perfect choice to be added to your collection. It likes indirect sunlight, and that’s why they grow best in medium lights. A perfect way to help it grow well is by putting it near the window, but make sure it’s not being directed toward the sunlight that causes them to get burned.

Care Tips

By following these care tips, your philodendron hastatum should thrive and bring a touch of greenery to your home.

  1. Light: Put them in medium to bright indirect light. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can cause the leaves to yellow and wilt.
  2. Water: Water your philodendron hastatum regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again.
  3. Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix that contains peat moss, perlite, or vermiculite to help retain moisture while also providing good drainage.
  4. Fertilizer: Feed your philodendron hastatum every two to four weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce the frequency of fertilization in the fall and winter when the plant is not actively growing.
  5. Temperature: This plant prefers temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid placing it in drafty or excessively cold areas.
  6. Humidity: Philodendron hastatum thrives in high humidity. If the air in your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water to increase humidity around the plant.
  7. Pruning: Prune your philodendron hastatum to remove any damaged or dead leaves and to maintain its desired shape.
